ABOUT ERMANNO CAVALIERE

Born in 1985 in Pagani, in southern Italy, Ermanno Cavaliere currently lives and works in Turin. During his studies in architecture at the University Federico II in Naples, he developed a love for photography and art, particularly the Dada movement. He began making collages in 2010, and in 2011 he founded (de)TAGLIO_magazine, dedicated to the art of collage.

In August 2015 Ermanno was sponsored by the Sabinarti Cultural Association to participate in an artist residency program at the “Palazzo del Gatto” in Casaprota, Italy, where he held a solo exhibition followed by a workshop about collage involving citizenship.

For Ermanno, collage is an opportunity to revive and rediscover the uniqueness of everyday things. He seeks to play with the visual power of the single element and with the strength of the whole. The juxtaposition of single elements in his artwork causes a tension, but also a new empathy: this conversation within diversity creates a new identity.
