A Splash of Spring - Vibrant works by Isabelle Pelletane

InterviewsErika BelavyComment

Spring is in the air and there is no better way to welcome the season than with a vibrant painting by French artist Isabelle Pelletane. Her lively works, with their superimposed colours, give the impression of spring in a painting. Her assured, dynamic, spontaneous movements with paint are a continuation of herself, becoming a cheerfully coloured fertile compost of celestial gardens!

What inspired you to become an artist?

After completing my studies in human sciences (psychology), I stayed on the Caribbean Islands for one year. It is a journey which keeps inspiring me even today. And beyond this, a visceral need to express myself!

What is your artistic process?

Action Paintings became imperative for me one day - I do not remember how anymore. I began to throw colours with my teaspoons and this technique stayed. I work the pictorial material on the ground, as a kind of pictorial performance.

Tell us more about your work. What inspires you?

My main inspirations arise from the vegetable kingdom and from the notion of "nature", which can have several explanations. Nature is a support which allows me to play with the material and the colours, creating internal & external landscapes.

What is your artistic process?

Action Painting! Everything is in the act of painting. The commitment is whole, physical, the painting is without a net, instinctive and energetic.

I am painting with techniques of "projections" and dripping, with a great source of freedom and experimentation, playing with dualities and disorder.

What do you want to accomplish with your work?

To dream of a better world? Yes, I am a dreamer. This territory in which I cultivate new creations is full of introspections, observations, and questions.

How are you doing this?

I do not try to bring answers through my paint, instead I evolve with my paint. I confide in it my vision of world. Does this Nature not echo our own nature?

My paintings invite the viewer to contemplate their own nature and their own vision of the world.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To become Wonder Woman and have infinite energy!
